Divisibility of characteristic numbers

We use homotopy theory to define certain rational coefficients characteristic numbers with integral values, depending on a given prime number q and positive integer t . We prove the first nontrivial degree formula and use it to show that existence of morphisms between algebraic varieties for which these numbers are not divisible by q give information on the degree of such morphisms or on zero c...

Counterexamples to the local-global divisibility over elliptic curves

Let p ≥ 5 be a prime number. We find all the possible subgroups G of GL2(Z/pZ) such that there exists a number field k and an elliptic curve E defined over k such that the Gal(k(E [p])/k)-module E [p] is isomorphic to the G-module (Z/pZ)2 and there exists n ∈ N such that the local-global divisibility by pn does not hold over E(k).

Local-global Principles in Circle Packings

We generalize work of Bourgain-Kontorovich [6] and Zhang [31], proving an almost local-to-global property for the curvatures of certain circle packings, to a large class of Kleinian groups. Specifically, we associate in a natural way an infinite family of integral packings of circles to any Kleinian group A ≤ PSL2(K) satisfying certain conditions, where K is an imaginary quadratic field, and sh...

Local Cohomology and D-affinity in Positive Characteristic

If k is a field of positive characteristic, the local cohomology modules HjI(R) vanish for j > 2 (see Chapitre III, Proposition (4.1) in [3]). However, if k is a field of characteristic zero, H3I(R) is non-vanishing (see Proposition 2.1 of this paper or Remark 3.13 in [5]). Consider the Grassmann variety X = Gr(2, V ), where V is a 5dimensional vector space over k. Let W be a one dimensional su...
